The Student Life
At Hokkaido University, there is more to student life than just lectures and tutorials. Abundant opportunities await international students to participate in the many activities available on campus. There are over 250 clubs and societies to choose from, and students can participate in sporting activities, visit the university’s museum, attend university festivals, or just relax with friends in one of the many eateries in between lectures. There are so many opportunities for students to obtain new experiences and to make new friends. The diversity of opportunities available means that every student can find something that suits them, and meet like-minded people who share their interests.
Student Clubs
Joining a club or society is simple! During Orientation Week (held each semester), students just need to sign up at the booth of the club they are interested in joining.
Whilst you are welcome to join any club, be advised that many clubs do require at least conversational Japanese for you to be able to adequately participate in club activities. Also be aware that some clubs are run as semi-professional sporting organizations. Therefore, since joining a club may demand a large amount of time to train, etc., please think carefully before making a decision.
Experiences
The IIC offers many kinds of cross-cultural events and cultural exchange opportunities which are open to international students, international researchers, their families, Japanese students, and University staff.
